Extension of Due Date for Filing Professional Tax Returns in West Bengal - Revised

The Government of West Bengal vide notification no. 43/CT/PRO, has announced an extension for the due date of filing professional tax returns for the year ending on March 31, 2024. This decision, published on May 31, 2024, by the Directorate of Commercial Taxes, is a response to ongoing challenging circumstances that necessitate further leniency for taxpayers.

Key Details of the Extension:

  • Previous Orders: The initial extension orders were dated April 26, 2024, and May 14, 2024.

  • Current Extension: The latest order supersedes the one from May 14, 2024, extending the filing deadline even further.

Revised Deadlines:

  • Electronic Transmission of Data:

    • Previous Deadline: May 31, 2024

    • New Deadline: June 15, 2024

  • Submission of Paper Form:

    • New Deadline: June 30, 2024

Compliance and Late Fee Waiver:

Any returns for the year ending March 31, 2024, that are filed within the newly extended dates, along with the tax payment made by April 30, 2024, will be considered as filed on time. Consequently, no late fees will be imposed under sub-section (2) of section (6) of the West Bengal State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings, and Employments Rules, 1979.
