The Government of India, through the new Labour Codesโ€”especially the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code (OSH&WC), 2020โ€”has strengthened safety and welfare measures for workers in hazardous industries such as mining, chemicals, petroleum, docks, and heavy manufacturing. The Codes mandate risk assessments, national safety standards, PPE, free annual health check-ups, emergency planning, and compulsory training. Workers also receive enhanced social security benefits under the Social Security Code, including ESIC medical care, compensation, PF, gratuity, and pension. With unified laws, digital inspections, and stricter enforcement, the Labour Codes aim to ensure safer workplaces, higher accountability, and better protections for Indiaโ€™s hazardous-sector workforce.
