The Central Government has implemented the four Labour Codes with effect from 21 November 2025, significantly strengthening social security for unorganised, gig and platform workers. The Code on Social Security, 2020 ensures universal coverage, expanded ESIC and EPFO applicability, and schemes for unorganised workers and their families. The Code on Wages, 2019 universalises minimum wages, promotes gender neutrality and timely wage payment, while the OSH & WC Code, 2020 enhances health, safety and migrant worker benefits. Together, these reforms aim to provide comprehensive social protection, transparency and inclusivity for India’s unorganised workforce.
