The Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, vide Notification No. S.O. 454(E) dated 30 January 2026, has prescribed a wage threshold of ₹18,000 per month for supervisory employees under the Code on Wages, 2019. As per the notification, employees holding supervisory positions and earning wages exceeding ₹18,000 per month shall be excluded from the definition of “worker” for the purposes of Section 2 of the Code. This clarification has significant implications for the applicability of wage-related provisions and compliance obligations for establishments, particularly in determining coverage under the Code on Wages. Employers are advised to review supervisory roles and wage structures to ensure alignment with the revised definition.
