The Government of Himachal Pradesh has notified the Himachal Pradesh Shops and Commercial Establishments (Amendment) Act, 2025 on 11 February 2026, after receiving the Governor’s assent on 9 February 2026. The amendment introduces key changes, including an increase in the overtime limit under Section 7 from 50 hours to 144 hours per quarter, providing greater operational flexibility to employers. Additionally, the registration requirement under Section 13 will now apply only to establishments employing 10 or more employees, thereby reducing compliance obligations for very small businesses. Employers in the state are advised to review their overtime records and determine whether their establishments fall within the revised registration threshold.
