The Ministry of Labour and Employment, vide Notification S.O. 3985(E) dated 21 July 2026, has reconstituted the Central Advisory Board under Section 42(1) of the Code on Wages, 2019, with immediate effect. Issued under File No. Z-16016/07/2026-WC, the notification supersedes the earlier S.O. 527(E) dated 29 January 2019, except in respect of actions already taken or omitted under the previous notification. The newly constituted 17-member Board is chaired by the Union Minister for Labour and Employment and includes representatives from the Central Government, five State Governments, employers' organizations, and workers' organizations, ensuring balanced representation in wage-related policy matters. The Board comprises independent members, including the Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Secretary, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, and the Joint Secretary (Wage Division) as Member Secretary. State representation has been provided to Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Assam, while employer organizations such as Laghu Udyog Bharti, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), ASSOCHAM, and the Council of Indian Employers, along with worker organizations including Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS), the Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA), and the United Trade Union Congress (UTUC), have been nominated as members. The Board has been constituted in line with the implementation of the Code on Wages (Central) Rules, 2026, which came into force on 8 May 2026, and members will ordinarily hold office for a three-year term from the date of appointment.
